Turkish security forces detain 279 Daesh, PKK terrorists in past week
The interior ministry announced that 279 Daesh and PKK terrorists were detained and 58 more were neutralized in operations
Turkish security forces detained at least 279 Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and Daesh terrorists in nationwide operations last week, the interior ministry said on Monday.
The operations were carried out by the military, Special Operations Gendarmerie (JÖH), Gendarmerie Commando Units and Internal Security forces.
The operations took place between Nov. 13 and 20, and 216 PKK terrorists and 63 Daesh terrorists were detained.
Throughout the operations, 58 terrorists were neutralized, including 45 who were killed, 10 others who were arrested and three others who surrendered to security forces.
Seventy-three sanctuaries and caves were rendered unusable by operations that were carried out in Ağrı, Bingöl, Diyarbakır, Erzincan, Hakkari, Kahramanmaraş Mardin, Şırnak, Tunceli and Van.
Security forces seized 61 hand grenades, 81 guns and 20,290 various forms of ammunition.
Fifty-five improvised hand grenades and landmines were destroyed as a result of the operations.
Operations targeting narcotics and irregular migration were also conducted, in which 5,273 suspects were detained by security forces.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
